Heroku是一項支持多種編程語言的雲平台即服務，總部位於美國加利福尼亞州舊金山，在2010年被Salesforce.Com收購。Heroku作爲最開始的雲平台之一，從2007年6月起開發，當時它僅支持Ruby，但後來增加了對Java、Node.js、Scala、Clojure、Python以及PHP和Perl的支持。基礎操作系統是Debian，在最新的堆棧則是基于Debian的Ubuntu。
Heroku平台的靈活性極高且支持多種編程語言。若想把程序部署到Heroku上，開發者要使用Git把程序推送到Heroku的Git服務器上。在服務器上，git push命令會自動觸發安裝、配置和部署程序。
Heroku使用名爲Dyno的計算單元衡量用量，並以此爲依據收取服務費用。最常用的Dyno類型是Web Dyno，表示一個Web服務器實例。程序可以通過使用更多的Web Dyno以增強其請求處理能力。另一種Dyno類型是Worker Dyno，用來執行後台作業或其他輔助任務。

創建完應用後，進入管理控制面板，主要應用是：Overview、Resources、Deploy、Metrics、Activity、Access。點擊“Settings（設置）”選項可以編輯配置應用項目，Config Variables的“Reveal Config Variables（顯示配置變量）”可以查看數據庫、存儲、郵局等環境參數。在“Info”中可以看到：Region、Stack、Framework、Git URL、Repo size、Slug size等信息。
